handcrafted chocolates
our process
Created in small batches from a cozy home kitchen where craftsmanship and creativity come together. every bonbon is made in small batches, hand shelled, hand painted, and crafted over four days of careful work. There are no shortcuts here, only patience, practice, and a whole lot of love for the process.
We use Felchlin chocolate and high-quality ingredients because flavor begins with the people who grow and care for the cacao.
By supporting Grumpy Chocolatier, you are also supporting fair wages for cocoa farmers and helping to end child labor in the chocolate industry, one bonbon at a time.

about esther
Hi, I’m Esther, the chocolatier behind Grumpy Chocolatier.
With a background in fine arts from Art Center College of Design, I approach chocolate as both craft and creative expression. I’m a self-taught chocolatier, and I began making chocolate at home during the pandemic. I started learning through books, videos, and plenty of trial and error. That journey is what inspired the name Grumpy Chocolatier.
Travel is a big part of my creative process. I visit chocolatiers around the world and bring back local ingredients to my kitchen in Los Angeles, transforming those experiences into chocolates that are thoughtful, a little unexpected, and meant to be shared.
